My *new* skin care routine

Face Mask Fun!

I turned 31 in March of this year. As much as I’ve loved my 30’s so far, I’ve also noticed some pesky changes to my skin. For the most part, my skin is relatively clear in terms of pimples (yay!), but I have started to notice some fine lines – mainly around my eyes. Prior to changing my routine, my skin was also prone to dry patches as well as an oily t-zone.

Up until a few years ago, my skin care routine was embarrassingly basic. I’d wash my face with a bar of soap (usually Dove) twice a day, once in the morning and evening, and I only used moisturiser before applying my make-up in the morning. My skin is extremely sensitive and prone to allergic reactions. I did try out different face washes, but would usually end up with a bumpy, itchy rash and swollen eyes after only a couple uses. So out of fear, I stuck with the bar of soap. I had attempted on a couple occasions to add a night time moisturizer to my routine as well, but I could never seem to make it a habit and I would quickly revert back to just cleansing in the evening.

Before  moving to London in 2009, I tried out my sister’s Olay cream face wash and instantly fell in love with the way it made my skin feel (and no allergic reaction!). I stocked up on a couple of bottles before my move, but it quickly ran out. I couldn’t find that particular Olay cream face wash in the UK so I switched to their Total Effects 7-in-1 Anti-Ageing Radiance Enhancing Cream Wash. I have been using it for over 5 years now and it has really helped the condition of my skin. Being a cream wash, it doesn’t strip the skin of its natural oils and it’s actually pretty good at removing eye makeup. I have looked for it in Switzerland and have not, alarmingly, found it here yet (Olay is actually Olaz here), so whenever I am in the UK I stock up on it and bring back 5 or 6 bottles.

I used to cleanse my face with this cream wash in the morning and evening, but I’ve recently stopped using it in the morning. Instead, I simply use warm water to wash my face. This seems like a simple change, but I’ve noticed that my skin is a lot softer. I give my face a good scrub in the evening to remove my make-up from the day, so it’s not really necessary to cleanse it again in the morning.

I’ve also recently added some moisturisers and a face mask to my routine, which I’ll detail below:

evening1. CleanseOlay Total Effects 7-in-1 Anti-Ageing Radiance Enhancing Cream Wash

2. Scrub – face brush (I do this 1-2/week)

3. MoisturizeL’Occitane Ultra Rich Face Cream (I purchased this for a daytime moisturizer, but I find it too greasy so I apply it in the evening instead)

morning

1. Cleanse – warm water

2. SerumL’Occitane Iris Angelica Sublime Essence (I love this stuff! My skin soaks it up instantly. It’s a bit pricey, but I only use a pea size amount every morning)

3. MoisturizeOlay Essentials Complete Care SPF 15 (inexpensive and not greasy)

4. Protect – RoC Soleil Protexion Mattifying Fluid 2 in 1 SPF 30 (in the summer months, I also add some of this if I know I’ll be out in the sun during the day)

mask

PamperLush Oatifix Face Mask (I loooooove this face mask from Lush. It’s quite solid, but is so buttery and soothing when it goes onto the skin. It also smells delicious.)

Do you have any skin care routine tips? What products do you just have to have?
