Fit Friday: Update (week 7)

001I would love to be a consultant for retail clothing stores. The first thing I would advise them on is their changing rooms. It’s something that I think so many stores get badly wrong. It may cost some more money initially, but making sure their changing rooms have flattering lighting and mirrors would make a massive difference in terms of sales.

Case in point: I’ve been wanting to get some new items to update my work-out style. The first store I went to was Mango. I’d seen some cute work out pieces when I shopped there on previous occasions. I picked out some trousers and a few tops. When I got into the changing room, I knew it was not going to be a good experience. Firstly, the rooms had those super annoying curtains that no matter how you position them, people can always look in and see your naked butt. Secondly, the lighting was horrible and fluorescent and the moment I took off my jeans and looked at the back of my legs, I wanted to put my clothes back, pick up some Ben & Jerry’s and call it day. Needless to say, the only thing I purchased was a new sports bra, which I didn’t try on.

The 2nd and final store I went to was H&M. I wasn’t optimistic, but they did have an extensive amount of sportswear options to choose from. I picked out around 7 items and queued up for the changing rooms. As soon as I got into the room, and there was a proper door that shut behind me, I already felt better. The lighting was so much better and the mirrors were flattering as well. Every item I tried on I loved and I was super stoked that the medium I originally picked up in the black jogging trousers (pictured) were much too big so I ended up getting a small. I would have purchased everything, but I whittled the items down to a t-shirt and tank top, both in electric pink (hey girl hey), and the black jogging bottoms.

I’ve been to the gym three times so far this week and plan to go this afternoon. I’m not going to focus on my stats this week because they have not changed. I have noticed that my body is becoming more wiggle and less jiggle (Wiggle, wiggle, wiggle / Just a little bittlethanks Jason). If you’re interested, this post from two weeks ago has them listed.

I’ve been resisting making too many drastic changes to my diet as it was already pretty healthy and I wanted this lifestyle to be easily maintained long term. I’ve not seen the results I was hoping for, so I’ve decided to make some new changes. I’m going to limit my sugar intake to low sugar content fruit (mostly berries and just at breakfast with my porridge) as well as lower my dairy intake. I’ve also changed my gym routine and have reduced my cardio from 1 hour to 30 minutes so I can spend more time doing weight training (Jay @ Optimus Vitality has some good information on this issue).

  1. So true! My friend Joanne calls the lighting in store changing rooms ‘hag’ lighting. A real turn off when trying on clothes! Love the electric pink workout tops you bought. xxx

  2. As much as I didn’t want to admit it, I noticed a HUGE difference in my body once I cut back my cardio and increased my weight training. Good luck!
